  • What We Do

As the nation’s leading drop-out prevention program, we know that if a student is not reading at his or her grade level by the third grade, that child is four times less likely to graduate high school and SIX times less likely to graduate if they are low-income. (There is a direct connection between literacy rates, high school drop-out rates, and crime.) Communities in Schools (CIS) is one of a few organizations that has research to prove our model helps school districts reduce dropout rates and improve graduation rates.

Through a school-based site coordinator model working in cooperation with the Savannah Chatham County Public School System and partner organizations, CIS of Savannah connects students and their families to critical community resources, tailored to local needs, and currently serves over 350 students and their families here in Chatham County.

The mission of Communities in Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.
