Who We Are

Communities in Schools, Inc. is the nation’s leading dropout prevention program. From modest beginnings in Atlanta, GA the program has expanded to reach over 1,314 million students, in 2,200 different sites located in 29 states, and managed by 187 network affiliate organizations. It’s an incredible story filled with a positive impact, but driving that success are people and communities invested in inspiring and preparing their youth to own their future.

Since 1996, Communities in Schools of Savannah, Inc. has been a vibrant and independent nonprofit organization governed by a local board of directors dedicated to surrounding public school students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Through an intensive collaboration in both public and private sectors and in partnership with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, Communities in Schools of Savannah works to bring community resources to students, their families, schools, and teachers to help eliminate barriers to student achievement and school success. Key initiatives include mentoring, tutoring, parent engagement, early intervention, literacy, after-school programs, and youth leadership.

What We do

The Communities in Schools unique model of integrated services positions site coordinators inside schools to assess students’ needs and provide resources to help them succeed in the classroom and in life. We partner with local schools, businesses, social service agencies, health care providers and community volunteers. Whether it’s school supplies, counseling, academic assistance or a positive role model, Communities in Schools is there to help.
