STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT MONTH: January 2017!
The Communities in Schools (CIS) Student Achievement Month contest challenges students to create art, write
essays, present speeches, develop computer technology entries, and depict how CIS has helped them excel in school. Over 200 students from 13 counties compete in the annual contest for scholarships and prizes valued up to $1000. This past year (January 2016), five CIS of Savannah students won the Student Achievement Month Regional Competition in the writing and creative art categories, and TWO won the State Competition for their Written and Artistic Pieces.

The kids that CIS serves struggle in school to poverty, behavior, attendance and/or academic problems, and are often not recognized for their positive accomplishments. Student Achievement Month boosts student’s confidence and helps them to set new goals and gain a better understanding of the importance of academic achievement and succeeding in school.

To prepare our students for this challenge, CIS of Savannah is looking for mentors and volunteers who would enjoy tutoring and mentoring students in art, creative writing, and public speaking.
