#ALLINFORKIDS
To summarize a quote from James Baldwin, “These are ALL of our kids, we will either profit from their success or pay for their failure”. Poor educational outcomes perpetuate the cycle of poverty and crime. With the increase in what are known as ‘high poverty’ schools, to break that cycle of poverty, our wrap around services are needed now more than ever.
For over 40 years, Communities In Schools (CIS) has worked to transform public education through a results-oriented model proven to keep students in school and on the path to a brighter future. With nearly 41% of students under the age of 18 living in poverty in Savannah, we know these students face challenges outside the classroom that can stand in the way of success inside the classroom.
Our unique model focuses on integrated wrap-around services and a school-based coordinator who brings services and resources into schools to benefit young people at risk of failing. It is a model that is both student-focused and data-driven.
CIS of Savannah piloted this model at Haven Elementary School during the 2016-2017 school year. The results… 88% of CIS students improved attendance, 98% improved academically, and 99% were promoted to the next grade.
Now imagine if we could employ this model in all of our high poverty/failing schools in Savannah.
With your support, we can expand our reach and continue to assist even more students…because we know that getting a child to graduation is only the beginning.
